Quick start: go to skiing.net and hit Play. That's the whole setup — no download, no sign-up, no install. Just click and play, on your desktop or your phone. The mountain generates as you descend, so standard runs are always a fresh line (weekly-challenge runs share one worldwide course).
Desktop controls
Summit Rush needs one hand on the keyboard, tops. Steering and jumping cover the basics; the trick inputs only matter once you're airborne.
| Action | Keys |
|---|---|
| Steer | ← → or A D |
| Jump | Space, W, or ↑ — press while grounded |
| Spin (in the air) | Hold Shift — steer to pick the direction; steer harder to spin faster |
| Grab (in the air) | Hold the jump key — lean left for a Method, right for a Mute |
| Flip (in the air) | Hold Shift + jump — lean left to flip forward |
| Pause | Esc or P |
Prefer the mouse? Click and drag to steer — the skier follows your cursor's horizontal position — and a quick click jumps. And no, there's no tuck key: tucking is automatic, kicking in on its own as you build speed. Point downhill and the game handles the aerodynamics. For every spin, grab and flip in detail — names, point values, chaining — see the full Trick Guide.
Mobile controls
On a phone, your finger is the steering wheel. Touch anywhere and the skier follows your finger's horizontal position across the screen — slide left, ski left. A quick tap jumps. If you'd rather lean your phone, optional tilt steering is in the settings (iOS will ask permission first).
Honest note: aerial trick inputs are keyboard-only right now. You can steer, jump, chase combos and climb the leaderboard from your phone, but spins, grabs and flips need a physical Shift and jump key.
Scoring: how points work
| Source | Points |
|---|---|
| Distance | 0.35 per meter descended |
| Slalom gate | 100 |
| Star | 150 |
| Coin | 25 (plus one coin to your wallet) |
| Crystal (Ice Caverns) | 60 |
| Trick landed | 120 per full spin, 150 per flip, up to 220 per grab — before bonuses; see the Trick Guide |
The real engine of a big score is the combo system. Gates, stars and fresh clean tricks each bump your combo by +1, and every point you earn — distance included — is multiplied by 1 + 0.25 × combo, capped at ×3.0. The catch: go 3.2 seconds without scoring and the combo resets, and a crash wipes it instantly. High scores come from stringing gates into stars into tricks without ever letting the timer run dry.
Power-ups and pickups
- Boost (5 s) — raises your speed ceiling and surges you toward it. Great for gapping the Yeti.
- Shield (12 s) — absorbs exactly one crash, from any cause, and is consumed by the save.
- Magnet (8 s) — curves nearby coins, stars and crystals into your line.
Coins are more than points — they're currency. Spend them in the shop on cosmetic skins (Aqua for 250, up to Sunlit for 900) and on riders that change how the game feels: the Freestyle Board (400) jumps higher for trick lines, the Downhill Racer (900) is a twitchy speed machine, and the Daredevil (1,400) starts every run with a free shield.
The mountain
The descent crosses five biomes, each arriving at a set depth: Alpine Bowl (0 m), Pine Forest (1,400 m), Blue Glacier (3,200 m), Moonlit Ridge (5,200 m), and the enclosed Ice Caverns (7,400 m). On top of that, a staged level ticks up every 1,200 m, raising the difficulty as you go. Day fades to night and back every 95 seconds — long runs pass through golden-hour dusk more than once — and the weather cycles between calm, flurries and blizzard as you ride.
Hazards and the Yeti
- Trees, rocks, boulders, logs — crash on contact, but every ground obstacle can be jumped over.
- Ice patches — never crash you, but grip plummets while you're on one, so steer early. (The Powder Cruiser rider mostly shrugs them off.)
- Cliff gaps — full-width chasms you must jump. They're always telegraphed by a ramp in your approach line; hit it with speed.
- Stalactites (Ice Caverns) — the one hazard you can't jump; you'd leap straight into them. Steering around is the only dodge.
- Avalanches — a rumbling wall of snow with a 1.5-second warning. Ski faster than speed 62 and you push it back; slow down or crash and it swallows you.
Then there's the Yeti. It shows up past roughly 1,500 m — or sooner if you dawdle or crash. The good news: its top speed is always below yours, so a fast, committed line outruns it every time. Keep your speed up, don't crash while it's behind you, and open a big lead and it gives up the chase. The Yeti is Summit Rush's tribute to a certain 1991 classic — read the whole story on A Modern SkiFree.
Weekly challenge and competition
Every week, all players worldwide get the same seeded mountain — identical terrain, obstacles and pickups — and compete on a shared weekly board that resets Monday at 00:00 UTC. There's also a local daily challenge that rotates each calendar day (no leaderboard — just you versus the goal), and you can spin up private tournaments with a share code to race your friends on a fixed seed. When you're ready to see where you stand globally, the leaderboard tracks the top runs in the world.
Frequently asked questions
Is Summit Rush free?
Yes — completely free. Summit Rush runs in your browser at skiing.net with no sign-up and no account. Just click and play.
Do I need to download anything?
No. There is no download and no install — the game loads instantly in your browser on PC and mobile.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. You steer by touch and tap to jump. Capable phones — all iPhones and iPads, plus flagship Android GPUs — get the full graphics pipeline, and other devices get a lighter tier that keeps the frame rate smooth.
What is the best free skiing game with no download?
We're biased, but Summit Rush makes a strong case: real 3D skiing in your browser with five biomes, aerial tricks, power-ups, a Yeti chase and global leaderboards — free, with no download and no sign-up. Try it and judge for yourself.
Is Summit Rush like SkiFree?
It's directly inspired by SkiFree — right down to a monster that chases you down the mountain. Summit Rush rebuilds that idea in 3D with tricks, power-ups and leaderboards.
How do I get a high score in Summit Rush?
Keep your combo alive by passing gates, grabbing stars and landing clean tricks — the multiplier reaches ×3.0 and applies to everything, including distance. Vary your tricks, because repeating the same one pays half as much each time.
You know the controls. The mountain's waiting — and so is the Yeti.
